In this case, I am definitely suniprtpog the government. Bald eagles are a protected species even though they are no longer on the endangered list. With good reason; our national symbol, the majestic eagle, was driven to the edge of extinction thanks to us humans before environmental protections were put in place. Without those protections they would be teetering on that same brink again in a horrifyingly short time, due to loss of suitable habitat for nesting. It's not like the land is worthless with a bald eagle nest on it. Their nesting requirements would not prevent all use of the parcel of land, just the use the owners intended when they bought it. I'm sorry the people paid millions for land they hoped to make even more millions from (nice for them that they have millions), but that's the chance you take when you purchase an investment. Environmental concerns affect us all and must take priority over the financial concerns of a few private individuals who hoped to make a fortune. In our haste to develop every square inch of scenic land into McMansions for the private enjoyment of the wealthy, let us not forget that we are not the only species on Earth that matters. If we destroy all the habitat our priceless wildlife needs for nesting, raising young, migration corridors, etc., we destroy our own future. To say nothing of the loss of our national heritage of unmatched natural splendor available for all to enjoy. Too much beautiful wild waterfront land has already been developed some of it must be left in its natural state for the sake of future generations if for no other reason.
